Early Music
Historical performance on period instruments. I must admit I am a bit of a geek when it comes to history. If I hadn't discovered music, I'd probably still be spending my time searching through libraries and museums to connect myself with the lives people lived over hundreds and thousands of years. The music of the past, and the instruments-particularly the lutes and guitars-have a sound that completely captured my imagination. Once I delved into the study of historical performance, and into the repertoire, came to realized how connected we really are with the past. The modern day human versus the one from four hundred years ago is not so different, and music has always held an important place in daily life. We share similar technical issues, musical issues, questions of taste and interest with those of the past. It is my goal to blend the two. Living in the 21st century, I have a particular background, but I wish to bring to today's audiences a musical experience offered by musicians of centuries gone by while remaining in touch with the realities of the world as it is now. Through devoted research to recreating the practices of historical musicians via material and technical choices, and the continued creation and development of modern repertoire for ancient instruments, my projects are designed to educate, entertain, and inspire.
